Thinking about Dialogue

1.  Talk about the process of eavesdropping:

i. I went to all the corners of the school, the cafeteria, and the around the gym

ii. I would listen for about a minute and half and if nothing interesting happened I would move on

iii. Most conversations were in groups between 3-5 people

iv. Nothing special considering I overhear conversations all the time in the around the school and work. The only difference was me writing down the conversations on paper rather than me recalling later on.

2. What insights did you gain about the way people speak?
A lot more people talk with their hands and eyes more than I would figure.

3. How can you apply this to your writing?
I can apply this to my reading by adding more detail to the characters actions and body language to give the reader a stronger idea of what is going on.

4.  How is personality and character revealed through conversation/dialogue?
Some of the ways personality and character are shown through conversation is by:
-Body Language
-Eye Contact
-Tone
-Volume
-Language

5. What happens when more than 2 people participate in a conversation?
It's really interesting because there is two things that could happen when there's more than two people talking.
a) They are one main speaker who does most of the talking and steering of the conservation, while the others throw thoughts and opinions here and there.
or
b) there is more than one main speaker and they both share control of the conservation. And depending on what kind of personality they have may step on each other’s "toes" so to speak. For example, if they are both really shy, docile, polite, or any combination of the above and they happen to talk at the same time. They will both pause and wait for the other continue, which causes this awkward pause. While if one of them is shy and the other is more assertive then the assertive person will keep charging through without a second thought.

6. What was the most surprising thing you've learned about the way people converse?
I wouldn't say it's the most surprising thing but definitely the most amusing is how people's persona change when around certain people nearly instantly. Like how someone could be talking normally and all of the sudden change to being peppy and flirtatious when they see someone they like.

7.   What are the differences and similarities between written and spoken conversations?

The biggest difference between written and spoken conversations is that in written conversations it's hard to get a feeling for tone along with things like sarcasm. I'm pretty everyone has received a written message like a text or email and been confused on what the person meant.

Quick Write:Minions

What I would do with my minions is they would make a machine that would instantly clean my room so I could do my work in peace without having worry about the destruction I causes my room on a daily basis. Also I would get them to make a  secret lab for me (Like the one in Dexter' laboratory, you know what I mean). that I would be able to make inventions and make more minions in the future :}. Then with the remaining amount of time they have in the week they would bug my sister and every time my sister would try to tell anyone they will turn invisible.

Six Word Memoir Debrief

What did I learn about Storytelling?

I learned not only how important every word is, but every detail is. Whether it is punctuation, a phrase , even symbols. For example I used the ">" in my fourth memoir to save me a couple of words and present my idea in a unique way. Also things like punctuation not only add to your work but also make it easier to understand, much I did in my first memoir.

Where did I show my knowledge on storytelling?

A picture is worth a thousand words, this phrase could not be any truer for an assignment like this. I would use certain camera angles that would give the picture a certain feel or message that I wanted to send. The best examples being memoirs #2,#7, and #8. In memoir #2 I used the angle to make the reader feel smaller along with making the stairs bigger and more intimidating. In #7 I centered the picture of me playing Rengar to help show what your suppose to be focusing on. And in 8# I tried to increase the significance of the tree but taking a shot with a lower angle along with some visual effects to give it more life.

What did I learn as a reader, writer, thinker, and story-writer?

The biggest idea that I toke from this project is that sometimes "saying less" can mean so much more than
"saying a lot". Especially when it comes to creative projects, because the coolest thing is letting the reader interpret your work in their own way. Which a lot of times is more powerful than out right telling them what you meant since they can interpret it in a way that is more significant to them. Whether it be a memory that they recalled from a long time ago or brought a new prospective to them.

Quick Write:Time

                                    http://writingprompts.tumblr.com/image/62806554408

86,400 minutes a day that's all we get per day after that it resets and doesn't carry over to the next day. Once the day is over you happen to "waste" some of those minutes it's gone and you can't get it back. So you have to make every hour, every minute, even every second worth it because we only get so much time in this world. Why spend that time doing something that we love? Don't wait to till tomorrow or the next day. Starting living your life today, whether your passion is sports, art, writing, or even playing videos games you should start today. That way you can have a brighter tomorrow.

Quick Write: Robot

What my robot would do in the future, is he would be able to be my personal recorder. He would record  the information I talk about so that I wouldn't have to write anything down. Like Items builds, tier lists, my thoughts on certain champions, ideas for my blog even homework. Then he would say it back to me whenever I asked him. Also he would play music for me whenever and wherever I wanted that way I can wake up to my own theme song and walk to school with it. Another thing my robot would do is he would be able to play League of Legends with me and duo queue. And he will be awesome because he won`t rage, always have some consistently, and always listen to my tactics/shot-calls. Speaking about listening he would also listen to all the things I would have to say and engage me in conversation besides just things like “Nothing much” or “Yeah” and “Mmmhhmm”.  Also he would laugh at all my chessey one liners and even play the CSI Mami theme everytime I said one, and take part in my excitement and victory celebrations every time we do something awesome.

Six Word Memoir #8

The reason why I used a tree to represent the quote “Respect the Foundation, Appreciate Every Layer” is because love reminds me of a tree. You need to have a strong foundation and treat it with love and care, otherwise it’s hard for anything to grow and be healthy. Just like in a relationship there has to be trust and compassion. And as you get to closer to someone you get to know them better, just like how a tree has more layers as you get deeper. And you start to love all the little things about them; their smile, their laugh, the way they flick their hair, their eyes. My favorite part is that moment where you look at each other and don’t even have to say a word, but it’s like you’re connected for that brief moment.

Six Word Memoir #7

This picture is actually a screenshot from me playing in league of legends (as Rengar, the Pridestalker) and the reason why I used the words “I want to be a legend” is because sometime in the near future I want to make my footprint in the League of Legends community. Whether it’s as a “Pro Player” or analyst or just even as a figure that gives helpful advice to help people become better players and better people. For visual effects I used something called frost to give that flash-forward image that you see people on TV do while they are daydreaming.

Six Word Memoir #6

Something I always have wanted to do is to randomly break into dance (I’m not 100% sure why, I just do) I would love to just wake up one day and have my own version of that sense from “500 Days of Summer” where Joseph Jordon-Levitt has everyone around dancing along, marching band, and cheesy birds along with any other musical clichés you could think of. For this I used the Budmo Jiggler Font to add that “Big Show” feeling or Musical/Acting impression. I also adjusted the text so it would appear to be on the white background on the stage so it would fit in better and have a more natural feel to it.

Six Word Memoir #5

The reason why I used the words that I did was as you probably guessed I those cheesy one-liners the best example being the ones used in the show “CSI Miami” by the character Horatio. And for that reason I toke this picture of me wearing my aviators and added a faded background of Miami, as a little “Easter egg” if you will for anyone that gets the joke. I also purposely separated the text so the person looking at it would have to look at the top, think about for a moment, and then look at the bottom to see the rest of the message. Much like how when people in movies have a brief pause or dramatic pause  between their one-liners.

Six Word Memoir #4

I have always been a quality over quantity kind of guy for my whole entire life. This is one of the few areas of my life I feel comfortable that I have both. I am very blessed to have as many good friends as I do whether it’s some people I meet through playing football, or acting on stage for a show, playing video games with people from all over the world, even simply meeting on a bus for the first day of kindergarten. I tried to use some visual effects like “Orton” to give that nice heartwarming feeling that gives you that idea of togetherness.

Six Word Memoir #3

The reason I used this picture to talk about family is because it was one of the best pictures I could get that had many multiply members of my family. I wanted to show how different we all looked. For example the 2 people closest to the right are my grandparents and in the middle is my mom standing beside my aunt. I always found it interesting how different my aunt, my mom, and my uncle (not in this picture) looked. Which is always a personal reminder that family really does come in all shapes and sizes. I also added some visual effect to give a nice glow to it. Like those Christmas cards you see around the holidays that give you that merry feeling.

Six Word Memoir #2

Whenever I think about the past, I think about all the choices that I made to become the person I am today. And what I always remember that the first step was always the hardest and scariest. Whether it was joining the football team not knowing anybody or even knowing how to play the game, or auditioning for a part in a play, and in some cases starting school in a completely new country. The reason why I toke the picture from the angle I did was because I wanted to stairs to look more intimidating much like the challenges we experience right before we that “first step” Cause the problems we face in life look a lot more difficult when we start at the bottom. I also used a black and white effect to give a more serious tone.

Six Word Memoir #1

The idea behind me using the phrase “Not one life; but many lives” is that as a gamer. I get to be a completely new person and take on a new persona every time I play a video game whether I am a Master Assassin, an elite soldier or even a champion on the fields of justice. Which not only gives this feeling of escapism from my daily life, it lets me see the world in a different perspective that I may never had though about before. I didn't really use any special effect or editing (besides some colour correction and cropping) for this picture because I felt anything I added would take too much attention from the words/messages I was giving.

Music to my ears

Whether I am surfing the internet or just playing a couple of rounds of Solo Queue I find these songs put me in a good upbeat mood. I am planning to make a Hugh playlist for when I am streaming but for now here are some of the songs I have been listening to lately. Enjoy :) .

Things about me and the future

My Passion is….
My Passion is Videos Games. I original was going to say league of legends is my passion but truth be told I love many games like Call of Duty, Portal, Civilization, Runescape, Super Smash Brothers, and the list goes on. The first reason that comes to mind when I think why do I love them so much is that I have literally been playing since I was born (Well 3 years old, but close enough) and I have been playing them ever since. Another reason why is because videos game offer you to become someone else for a little while. Whether you’re a Master Assassin trying to save the world, a robot trying to solve puzzles using physics and environment around you, or even going on a quest for fame and fortune. It gives this feel of escapism that never gets old for me. But perhaps the biggest reason why it’s my passion is because the community of gamers is so amazing. I like that you can have people of multiply ages, genders, races, cultures, countries, and experiences come together and they don’t care about those things. All that matters is the game, and that we enjoy it. And I have met some of my best friends from these games which can come from anyway from Vancouver to Vietnam. On top of this I love challenges and pushing myself to be best I can be.

A year from now I will be….
In a year from now I plan to go to UoM or Waterloo taking engineer courses. Also I plan to have my YouTube channel, Stream, and blog well establish and be a hotspot for League of legends players wanting to become better players, better people and having a good time. Also I am going to be a Professional League of Legends player playing in Esports  in either LCS or the amateur circuit.

When I grow up….
I haven’t though this far into my future quite yet. But I plan to have at least a master in engineering and work with Esports on the side as maybe a caster or analyst. I would also go back and try to do some renovations in my reserve and try to make a better place to live and get more involved with first nations rights and politics. I plan to have a family with a wife with 2 kids (preferable one girl and boy) and we would live this nice house that I have personally designed. I’m not sure what will quite happen at this time but I will know I will do my best to help make myself the best I can be and try to change to world for the better one step at a time.

In one week I will upgrade my blog by….
Things I wanted to do and have done
-Added my Stream (embedding so you don’t have to go to twitch directly and still enjoy my blog)
-Added my YouTube Channel
-Added social networks/stream info
-Added a simply text explanation on league of legends

Things I am still working on for my blog
-Explain League of Legends to people who don’t know about it
-Explain what Esports is
-Add rant(s) on “EloHell” and other League of Legends Issues
-Add Playlist of music use for my stream
-Add “Mega-Guides” for Champions and Roles
-Add “Tier List”
-Add “Favorite Champions” and why
-Add “Road to becoming a better player”
-Add Stream Hightlights
-Add YouTube videos along side my guides, articles, and explanations

Digital Footprint

To be honest I was a little surprised how small my footprint is but I hope it will be a lot bigger in the coming mouths. :D

Reading Survey

What do you get from reading that you can’t (or don’t want to) get anywhere else?

The thing about reading that I love is that I can go at any pace I want. whether I am enjoying a fantasy book and want to take my sweet time. Or when I am reading some guide on how to improve my skills and learn some new tricks. Sometimes when you watch a video guide it can go too fast and will have to watch over a couple of times (which helps since I am deaf sometimes, most likely due to the ridiculous I use EVERY day at home XD). Sometimes I might not even get that option to rewind if I am watching a stream, but with reading I have the safety of going at a rate I am comfortable with.  This allows me think about the content I am reading and not forget about it later.

When you read, what happens inside your mind?

There are two things that can happen in my mind when I start reading. The first thing that happens in my mind is when I am reading a story, lore, or any book that’s just for fun. I will picture the setting, all the character(s) as the book describes them and a lot of times I will take pauses to imagine what the character(s) looks, walks, sounds, how they think and many more details on how I think they look unless the book says otherwise. The other thing that happens when I read something along of the lines of Guides, Theorycrafting Blogs, basically anything that involves learning I will do something called “SQ-RCRC”. This stands for Survey, Question, Read, Cover, Recite and Check. It’s a method I learnt from oxford learning center that is usually used for studying  that I use when I want to know something inside out as quickly as possible. But I will sometimes use it in less formal way.

The best book I ever read was ___________ because _______________.

(This ended being long than expected even after shorting it so I made a TLDR thing at the bottom for people who can’t this much text. Your welcome J)

This is the most interesting question by far because I originally didn't want to do this question. The reason why I didn't want to was because when I really thought about it I didn't have a favorite book. Which I thought was really silly considering all the things I have read, wanted a real answer for myself I tried thinking to myself “OK, what’s my favorite story of all time?”. And that was without a doubt the League of Legends Lore. Now it may not be a real “book” but it has so ALL things that I would want in a book. It has a diverse, colorful, large, unique, universe that is always growing. All the stories have a great pace and plots that make you want read more and more. And finally to top it all off the best thing about it, the characters.   Few books, movies, and even videos game can pull off having a large amount of characters that are interesting, unique, and for lack of a better term alive. League of Legends currently has 115 unique champions that all have different backgrounds, personalities, and appearances. If that wasn't enough they all interact each other and none of them are truly are under the typical “good guys” or “bad guys” categories. They are all just different shades of “grey” , some people would say “Varus, The Arrow of Retribution” may seem like a really “dark” character but if you read his story you would know that he actually was a kind caring solider and the most killed archer of his village. Which was he was choosing to protect a temple that contained an ancient evil that he needed to make sure didn't fall into the wrong hands. When Noxus (A Faction/Country in the League of Legends world) invaded his homeland of Ionian he had to make a choice between keep his oath to make sure no one would use the ancient evil or protect his village. He decided that he would not break his oath and protect the Temple. Unfortunately when he came back his village was in ruins and his wife and daughter did not survive. Enraged by this he goes back the temple and uses the dark powers in the temple which he gave everything had for to get revenge on those killed his family. This a short summary of one of the wonderful Characters in League of Legends.  Now I KNOW this was a very long post but one more thing I had to throw in is that not only do I get read about these characters I get to play as them and walk a mile in their shoes. Even if you’re not a gamer, imagine how cool it would be to your favorite character(s) from your favorite book or movie.

TLDR:
The League of Legends Lore is my favorite book/story because they have a great plot, an ever growing world that just keep getting better and better and they have interesting spins on characters that feel fresh and are unique. Over 115 characters right now and more are made still, next one might be a storm dragon

 Techno "Do-you" Paragraphs:

I don’t have a smart phone, I have an iPod which I keep with at all times and can use at any time.  My parents have a kobo thing I can use if I really needed I usually read E-books on my iPod and my mac. I do have a Twitter account but I rarely ever use it. The only time I use it is sending tweets about E-sports when they are asking viewers in stream about stuff. I really didn't have a blog until today but I would posts and comment on stuff often on theorycrafting website called Reign of Gaming (theorycrafters are people that usually give strategies to players and give explanations on why they work). My interest in this course comes from wanting to become a better writer so I can share my knowledge and be as clear as possible.

P.S. For this wondering what Varus might look like here's a picture of him and if you ever need to know anything League of Legends I am your man.

"The life of an arrow is fleeting, built of nothing but direction and intent."
-Varus, The Arrow of Retribution
